Let’s say you start up a brand new app, which doesn’t use any of the features introduced by the big company. A few weeks later it crashes, and no one notices. And then when it crashes again, it is fixed by the app developer.
At the end of one day, you have a dozen problems for which “A new app with no problems! That’s the most awesome feature!!” is your only solution. But no one noticed before, so the problem was not fixed because a person could point his finger at the developer instead of you.
Now when you start up your favorite new app, it looks like it is a winner because it uses these features, but it is not. It is not better than those two big companies, because those brands and apps are now better then you were, and so are people who have tried them.
So let’s take it to the next level and imagine the next big app that just doesn’t give two shits that it can’t be fixed. The next question is will the company be able to fix it before people fix theirs, but I’m sure it will be possible.
But how can you determine when it is your problem? It can be that you don’t understand what it is, or it’s a minor bug, or you have a hard time understanding how it works.
So here are some ideas that will give you a very good idea of how much time is left before it is your problem.
1. Is it a bug?
If it is a bug, you should tell the app developer as soon as you have a complaint. You never know when your app might become more and more popular. If it is a bug, you will notice after you use the product all weekend for one of the largest promotions there is. If it’s a feature, you would notice it in weeks, not days. This is an indication that it could be a feature you were not aware of that caused a problem.
So if you have just noticed a bug in an app and you can’t figure out why it was there and what to do about it, you need to write an angry message on every third floor of the office building where it happens. Your boss is gonna love this.
2. It is a feature
If it’s an application that you don’t understand how it works, or it’s an application that was never very good before, you need to understand how it works and report back
