5. Phil Kessel

We all know Kessel doesn’t play for the Maple Leafs and he’s not even with the team any more, but the numbers are pretty telling.

It’s tough to pinpoint one single thing that led to Kessel’s incredible streak, but if we take it all in one go that would be putting in the hard work. As the Leafs had just won it’s 14th straight game, the entire team was up for a late run – from the bench, team bus, gym, and anything else – all to get the win.

There’s no other way to say it, Phil Kessel was up and playing the entire game, just as you’d believe.

In his eight-game streak, Kessel registered 31 points, and was tied for the team lead with seven goals. He would end up totaling 60 points over his 16 games for the season, ranking third in the league with 16 goals.

Kessel was also the recipient of his first NHL Goal of the Year. A game in which Toronto jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the second period and Kessel found the back of the net to make it 3-2, giving the home team an easy 4-1 win.
