In the episode “Beware” it was revealed that Clark Kent doesn’t have superpowers. Was “Beware” a reference to “Superman II”?

Although Superman II never appeared as a direct sequel to the Superman movie, some of the details shared in “Beware” were very similar. In one version, Clark Kent was an ordinary kid who got sick. When he got worse, he was diagnosed as having leukemia. He then had surgery to treat it but soon afterward, he developed a super strength that he never would have if he never got sick in the first place.
