I can only assume the name Blaine comes from the ancient world. Or from a French word that basically means, ‘the hand that makes the hole’.
Blaine has said that in a moment of panic, he put a needle in his arm while in a trance state, which he believed was a sign of his impending death. In a moment of bliss, he decided with confidence that if the time came and he could no longer pull himself up from the floor, he would make his way back to the floor so he could draw the rope and pull himself back up to life. He found that he was able to do it almost instantly.
Blaine was a great sport about it. In fact, a photo of me doing one of the same trick has been appearing in his pictures ever since.
But what if that’s wrong?
Let me get a few things straight, here. One, the world record needle trick is not David A. Blaine.
Two, some other folks, like Scott Niles, have actually done an incredible shot in which they pulled themselves down an infinite amount of ways. The thing which Blaine is currently doing isn’t a needle illusion, either.
I was told that the world record needle trick is actually David A. Blaine pulling himself up from the floor. It might be impossible to top, but it’s an achievement all the same.
And it’s worth noting that, in general, I think that the needle trick or the photo that Blaine is making is much more impressive than the shot he’s making. I also know for a fact that he likes to create a photo, and then a few days later he’s gone and made another one, and another. The photos all make me really sad.
But, at the same time…
The question that remains then is whether in the next five seconds you could pull yourself up from the floor, or you can just wait until the shot happens. David Blaine has done the needle trick, so how much longer am I gonna wait for that photo?
