I think so,” he says.
“It’s a big concept, but we have the technology here. We know how to do levitation on the Earth. We have found out how to levitate on water, and to do levitation on the Moon. I think levitation is possible by human, but what we need is people who are strong enough to go up and do it. I believe, that if there is a god that loves mankind for being a good race, then we should do what is necessary for us to do to make sure God loves us.”
There is no denying that there are skeptics around here. “There are believers – there are still believers, but it’s a little bit different,” Khatib says. “Because now we know for sure, that the whole earth can be levitated. Our goal now is not to change the world. Our goal is to save our own species and the future of humanity and so on.”
So do we get to live in the solar system, on a massive spaceship and live forever in a space dome? That’s the long-range goal but the short-term goal is to make sure everyone can live and work on space, and live in space for years. In the short-range, that would mean getting enough people to be able to make a habit of visiting Earth. When they have finished living and working on space, they can leave. The space system has made it difficult for many people to get to space on a regular basis so now, a couple of decades back, they want to get people to visit. They call that a trip to infinity in the stars.
At the same conference, Khatib also spoke about the need to build a new type of rocket in space, the Space Launch System. “The SLS is a big rocket on one side – it’s a solid rocket booster, and on the other side is a liquid fuel rocket engine,” he says. It’s a different type of rocket. “It will have an engine that burns methane or kerosene,” he explains to us. “That engine can be used for a lot of different purposes, and in this case, a lot of different missions.” The SLS could, he says, launch cargo around the Moon and even to Mars.
He also talked about space tourism. We’d all love to visit the Moon in the future, but for now, there are only a few potential destinations. “If, in 25 years time, there are
