We’ve had plenty of the same experience with our favorite TV shows, and the answer is yes, there have indeed been two-part shows.
A pilot was shot in the late 1990s with a cast that included Will Arnett, Michael C. Hall, Bill Pullman and Paul Rudd (with Ben Stiller in a cameo as a janitor). “I, Claudius” was released as a movie in 2011. The premise is that “Gilmore” fans have been waiting for more of the original characters to return, in one form or another, over the years, and thus the show “Gilmore” becomes a “Galaxy Quest”-esque video game. The “Galaxy Quest”-like theme song is by the band Nine Inch Nails, which will return with its new album “Songs of Innocence” (Nov. 3) on RCA Records. (The band has also re-formed following its hiatus earlier this year.)
The film was directed by Matt Jones, who has had more success in television than in feature films, directing the short movies “The Wedding Date” and “The One With The Supernatural Christmas Tree.” But his film, “Nostrati, A Ghost Story,” is at the same point in production (Nov. 18), though Jones did not return a request for comment.
