“They’re working around the clock. A lot of them are at the table at 4 in the morning. It’s very, very demanding.”

But there are perks. Casino employees have the option to make at least $20 per hour working two and five hours, and they’re also covered for up to 40 hours of maternity and paternity leave.

According to Koppi, employees have the choice of what kind of insurance they’ll have — and the casino won’t kick them if it turns out they need it.

In fact, casino workers have the same health benefits as their non-casino colleagues. They get health insurance through the state of Florida, the federal Employee Health and Retirement Benefits program, and also through the federal Medicare program.

“We have a 401(k) plan. There’s a [Medigap] plan. And there’s a supplemental plan. We all have our health insurance,” says Koppi.

The benefits will last for a lifetime. And it doesn’t cost you anything extra to stay on the company.

“You’re not paying anything extra for insurance. We work hard for the wages we get for working here, but we’re not being asked to work more than 40 hours a week,” she adds.
