It’s not possible to take all of the gambling industry’s profits into account when it comes to the top 10 gambling countries in the world, but we did find something interesting about the data. Of the top ten gambling countries, the U.S., China, South Korea, Hong Kong and France are in the top four. So we have to do our best to figure out some of the hidden variables and take some of that into account when we look at the overall score.
In a few of the countries, though, there seemed to be pretty strong correlation between population size and the percentage of its population that plays the slot machines.
In Spain, people age 21 or older represent 44 percent of the population, meaning it could be that those residents play the most slots in the country. Meanwhile, in Italy, people who are between the ages of 65 and 74 represent just 17 percent of the overall electorate, meaning it’s only a 17 percent chance of their neighbors turning a profit.
That said, the data does point out some interesting differences between countries, with countries like the UK – which had already been ranked number 1 in the world when we took care of the economic data – dropping to number 17 in terms of slot play and the U.S. being bumped up to number 1 in the slot industry.
To get a complete snapshot of the gambling market in the country, we looked at the percentage of households that play the slot machines as of 2008 that were aged 15 or older. We also looked at the age and wealth of households (which also has a direct link to gambling participation) and created a graph showing all the data and how it stacked up between countries.
A few of the more striking results came from our breakdown of where countries place in the world in terms of household income and housing wealth.
While China is by far the world’s gambling favorite, the country has the lowest percentage of households that play and the highest percentage of households that own homes.
The data below shows where the top countries score in terms of household income.
The graph above shows where the top 10 countries rank in terms of housing wealth.
It’s also worth noting that while gambling participation has risen in the U.S., the U.K. and France in recent years, countries like the United States have the most expensive housing costs in the world.
It’s also worth noting that while the USA has the highest percentage of adults playing slot machines, there are far more Americans living below
