With a little drawing practice and a set of clear maps, I’ve always been confident driving the car. I had to go through several phases and the final stage was how to make a car that is as quick as my car in the real world
What inspired you to become an illustrator?
My first job I had with Lego was the design of the set for their toy range. I loved the idea of an ‘I’ that is not the same as it is on the board, but that has its own personality and character. My first job was designing the head of a child in which I had drawn an ‘I’, but when I put it in Lego, I found that there was a ‘I’ in the shape of a monkey. It was the ‘I’ that drew a gap between my imagination and the Lego set that I was painting when I was a kid. It was a real struggle.
What is your dream job?
A good position with a company that produces something good, something I like and I think will be appreciated. I don’t want to have a ‘real’ job, I want to have a place by myself where I can do what I believe is best and that might be a small place like art. I want to be inspired by art to create more work as soon as possible!
Why did you choose the name ‘Citizen Kane’?
It’s the name that my mother gave me at the age of 13. I just know that the word ‘keen’ is a simple word. I have a feeling that it relates to the way I look at things and how I am looking at things. It has something to do with the idea that you should not compromise with your vision but always keep pushing it.
You have a degree in graphic design. Can you please tell us about your work? Please tell us about your style and how it varies from your work as an illustrator.
I studied graphic design at the Royal College of Art and got my first job as an illustration consultant for a publishing company. I did that for five years for various clients. Some of them were quite small, some larger than me but they always brought in big amounts of sales. I started off as a part-time illustrator for those clients and did a variety of different typefaces so they could easily use their designs. Then I moved on and started doing the jobs I wanted rather than the types of fonts they wanted so I could stay in my own
