A young woman has been charged with a hate crime after she attempted to kill a man with a machete in front of her kids.
The 18-year-old was at a party at the University of North Carolina (UNC) campus on Saturday when she allegedly stabbed a man and his two young daughters in the neck, according to authorities.
The victim, a 27-year-old student at West Ashley High School, was hospitalized following the incident, which occurred during a football game.
“The victim sustained injuries to his forehead, neck, neck region, leg, lower right thigh and both legs,” UNC police said in a statement.
Police said the woman is a student at the college who attended the same high school as the victim, and that no weapons were used in the incident.
The woman’s mother and father reportedly were among the partygoers and were not hurt, police said. The family is not cooperating with authorities.
Both the victim and his daughters are being held at the Raleigh County Detention Center. They will be held there until their next court appearance in about two weeks.
The woman has been identified as 17-year-old Jameisha Jackson, a first-year student at UNC and the only person arrested in the stabbing, according to police.
No one at the UNC campus was injured in the incident.
