“They’re always searching, because everyone is going through the same thing: They’re always doing their own thing, they’re having the last baby, they’re working, and then there’s the whole thing of them not having to work,” says DeSoto, a life coach with a specialty in child development and development of youth and young adults. “You go, ‘Where are you going to be able to put an end to something?’ You see a lot of moms say, ‘I’m going to go out on the weekends to work, I’m going to do some gardening, or I’m going to be a chef.’ It just doesn’t happen to work that way.”
If DeSoto didn’t have clients yet, she did have “tough ones, some crazy crazy ones” on the show. Most of the women did have kids, but the show gave her a more intimate, personal perspective on what it’s like to have a career and the challenges she’d face.
“If you’re looking to be successful in any industry, it all boils down to how much time you spend working,” says DeSoto. “As long as you get paid, don what you want to do, spend the hours you want to, and be a good person, it’ll all work out.”
How long would you say a typical client lasts on the show?
“Probably at the minimum, it’s about six, seven weeks,” says DeSoto. “A lot of them would have to be in that realm, if they wanted to have full-time careers, which really makes it challenging to get into that industry.”
What happens when a client leaves?
As DeSoto says, you’re in this world of extremes. “Sometimes people take it home and it’s very successful for them to take their baby home and do that,” she says. “Some people may not want it at all, either. They say, ‘I’m going to keep it at home,’ and I ask: ‘Then why don’t you just say, ‘No?,’ so you can leave and find someone who will take it?'”
As far as if the show will stay around in the future, DeSoto says, “We’re currently trying to figure out ways of making sure it stays relevant and not fall apart. There’s no shortage of shows like this out there, I understand. But at this point in time it seems like one person’s problem is another person
